How to make the background of a photo white

Need a clean white background for a form, a listing or a document? Remove the old background and swap in white, in your browser and without an account.

The quick way

  1. Open the Background Remover and drop in your photo.
  2. Press Remove background. The first time, your browser downloads the model once.
  3. Under Background, choose White. The preview shows your subject on pure white.
  4. Adjust Edge position and Softness until the outline looks clean, then download the PNG.

White or transparent?

Transparent is best when you will place the cut-out on something else later. White is best when the picture is used as it is, for example on an ID form or a product listing. You can choose either before you download, and you can switch back at any time.

Avoid a white halo

If the edge of your subject looks too bright or has a thin outline, the cut-out is a little too wide. Lower Edge position a few steps. This is most visible on dark hair and dark products.

Other background colours

The same tool can put your subject on any colour you pick, which is handy for passport style pictures with a light grey or blue background. Check the exact colour and size rules of the place you are sending it to.

Quick answers

Does white mean pure white?
The White option fills the background with pure white (#FFFFFF).

Is my photo uploaded?
No. The cut-out is made on your own device, so the photo is never sent to a server.
